You have a choice to take a tour or view the grounds on your own. My husband and I decided to just walk on our own. It was very interesting and I thought the grounds were lovely.
This is a National Monument, which is always a good reason to go check it out. The first settlement in Coastal Georgia, with a town, and a fort on the river. The town did not catch on, and there are no intact buildings left. The site is absolutely gorgeous, with giant towering oaks all over, and the river is a short walk away. The history is well documented with many information plaques on your walk. If you are in the area this is well worth the time visit.
We didn't get watch the movie because of technical issues but we had a good time.
Great historical park. They do a fantastic job mapping out where people lived, what their jobs were and it helps you get a sense of what life must have been like. I had no idea the Scottish played any kind of military role back then in our early history but it makes sense. Lots of fun to learn about it and be able to see the remnants of the past.
Very fun and educational. It's easy to get the feeling that you have stepped foot back in time also the gorgeous views are breath taking. Plenty of memorable photo opportunities.
Free to enjoy which was nice.
This is a place with so much potential, both realized and forthcoming. With a fresh infusion of support, this spot would be among the preeminent historical stops to learn about English colonialism in the South. A few reconstructed homes, and it would feel like a smaller, coastal Williamsburg. As it is now, it feels more like a historical park, with some very interesting ruins, history, as well as a lot of shade for hot southern afternoons. Definitely worth a trip or a picnic, and a donation, if you can spare one. It's a gem that's hidden from many, and yet worth all of our attention.
